This project exceeded all our expectations and DPEAP would be
happy to work with any SEN school wishing to participate in such a

Aim To
increase the knowledge and understanding of Year 11 pupils regarding
substance misuse with particular attention to alcohol, tobacco and
solvents to enable the Year 11's to develop and deliver two lessons
for the Year 7's.
Objectives To prepare and produce a
teaching resource pack for Year 11 To prepare and deliver drug
education workshops for Year 11 To explore with Year 11s what
information they consider relevant to Year 7 pupils. To explore
and develop two lesson plans.
The vast majority of the work
is verbal and visual to help cater for the academic requirements of
the young people. DPEAP workers along with teaching staff will be
present with the young people at all times to encourage and enable
them to actively complete the project. When working in small groups
two Year 11 pupils will be working alongside groups of no more than
four Year 7s.
The project raises self-esteem as well as
developing the following skills for the Year
11s: Communication Planning skills Presentation
skills Time management Research skills
Year 7 pupils
will receive drugs education using a different approach from the one
they are used to.
