Peer Education

For many years DPEAP have run a highly successful Peer Education scheme in Buckinghamshire Schools.

Peer education has been described as young people being involved in teaching, leading and facilitating work amongst groups of young people of near age. It empowers young people to draw on the strength of positive peer pressure by means of positive support and appropriate training. Young people become active players in the education process rather than passive recipients.

DPEAP will train sixth formers in basic balanced drugs information using experiential exercises enabling them to pass this on to pupils in Year 7 or 8. This normally takes place during the Autumn term.

The sixth formers attend an intensive day's workshop, facilitated by DPEAP to share their own experience and knowledge while at the same time being given drugs information.

Our Peer Education programme has been evaluated with the aid of an outside consultant and received a very positive review.
